Re: ELM for 5.5 /6.5

You can move ESXi (with virtual machines) between vCenters without downtime, but you will need first migrate your old environment from Nexus 1000V to Standard switch, and then move your hosts between vCenters like described here: How to move ESXi/ESX host from one vCenter Server to another (1004775) | VMware KB

About migrate from Nexus 1000V to standard switch, there is a lot of guides on the internet, and here is one using PowerCLI: Migrate ESXi host and guests from 1000v / VDS to Standard Switch using Powercli | NutzandBolts - An IT Systems Engineer …

Perhaps there there any other tasks or dialogue boxes pending?

Also, are you using the server appliance? And did you upgrade it from 5.1? Because if so this KB (https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2148007) says that it's a known issue and you'll have to use the command line. It links the OVF tool here (https://www.vmware.com/support/developer/ovf/).

There is another thread on this issue here (https://communities.vmware.com/thread/551756), at the end of which they also recommend using the OVF tool.

Regardless of the details, that tool is worth a shot if you're stuck.

I dont know why I keep getting this error in host profile from a reference host. I updated the host profile from the reference host and did a complance check on the same reference host and still get this

Then what is the advantage for creating data store Cluster to only see the combine space ? I checked at my home lab by creating cluster for 3 locally mounted DataStore on 3 Esxi host it showing the combine space only.

Were you able to confirm that TCP1234 is opened between the NSX controllers clusters & the ESXi hosts ?

so you mean to say that I will not be entitled to use the Network Insight only to my hosts which I need to use it for.

The licensing should be the same as my NSX licenses. Is my understanding right ?

SRM Datastore Groups

How does an SRM "datastore group" get created? Is it configurable?

I have two datastores that I want to be part of one protection group.  Do I manually place these datastores in a "datastore group" and then place the "datastore group" in a protection group?

Thanks!

Well it may be time for me to get some support.  I ran the Dell Lifecycle Controller and all firmware is current.  I rebooted without reapplying the patch, and what I saw was just like what I saw last night.  It was in maint mode, so I took it out and the VMs were stopped.  If I started more than one VM at a time, that's when things go south.  I pretty much have to let one VM fully boot and ensure I can connect to it before starting another.  Otherwise everything crawls, and the VMs I'm trying to start seem to power off and on again.

The host is very underutilized, so this makes no sense.  I have a virtually identical server with a lot more VMs and load, and they all start up simultaneously almost.

I don't see any performance issues on the charts of the problem host.  Something is definitely wacky.

Re: How to redirect "C:\Users\%username%\Documents" to NFS using UEM?

We were using Windows GPO for Folder Redirection with Persona and recently migrated to UEM 9.1 and are now using UEM Folder Redirection. Users Desktop Folder under Favorites and Documents Folder under Libraries in Windows Explorer are correctly redirected with UEM Folder Redirection. The local Desktop and Documents folder do exists locally on the VM but users never manually go to that path and save their files. So, it's working for us.

The advantage of a datastore cluster is to manage and manage them as a single entity and of course provide load balancing based on space and/or I/O latency and create anti-affinity rules. You can read more about benefits here: An introduction to Storage DRS

Re: SRM Datastore Groups

See the official documentation: How Site Recovery Manager Computes Datastore Groups

Site Recovery Manager combines devices into datastore groups according to set criteria.

■ Two different datastores contain files that belong to the same virtual machine.

■ Datastores that belong to two virtual machines share a raw disk mapping (RDM) device on a SAN array, as in the case of a Microsoft cluster server (MSCS) cluster.

■ Two datastores span extents corresponding to different partitions of the same device.

■ A single datastore spans two extents corresponding to partitions of two different devices. The two extents must be in a single consistency group and the SRA must report consistency group information from the array in the device discovery stage. Otherwise, the creation of protection groups based on this datastore is not possible even though the SRA reports that the extents that make up this datastore are replicated.

■ Multiple datastores belong to a consistency group. A consistency group is a collection of replicated datastores where every state of the target set of datastores existed at a specific time as the state of the source set of datastores. Informally, the datastores are replicated together such that when recovery happens using those datastores, software accessing the targets does not see the data in a state that the software is not prepared to deal with.

So, if you can manually edit the datastore group, the answer is depend, for example, if you're using consistency group in your storage array and you add a new volume to that consistency group, that change will reflect in your datastore group.

At the very least to gather solid troubleshooting data, on top of getting the job done quicker, you might want to vMotion the VMs off the host in question and confirm that they don't have that issue.

I'm not sure how many hosts you have but if you can afford to move all the critical VMs off of it, and perhaps apply some host anti-affinity rules, then you could make some test VMs and see if they have similar issues with minimal configurations. That way you would not be putting any critical applications at risk. This might help you zoom in on a particular hardware fault such as RAM, CPU, or motherboard. Also, if you vMotion the critical VMs off of it then you could power off the host (even during production hours) and run hardware diagnostics on it from the boot menu.

This is a new host, I actually just migrated the VMs on to it.  They were running on an old PowerEdge T410 with much less hardware.  I never had performance issues there.  It was running ESXi 5.5  because it wasn't certified for 6.

Unfortunately I don't have a SAN, so juggling stuff around isn't so easy.

Did you create the VM or was it a download of a VM image?

What is the version of the VM Hardware Compatibility? Is it 12? You can see this at the bottom of the VM tab or go to VM - Manage - Change Hardware Compatibility in the menu.

in ssh I assume you are referring to a simple shutdown.sh command?

If I am in ESXi host why can't I just shutdown vCenter from here? Why SSH into VCSA?

Since my last vCenter shutdown was forced how can I find out if vCenter booted successfully or if there were any errors I need to worry about?

It is the VMware SVGA 3D driver crashing.

Based on the log, I see you have 8.15.1.32 version of the driver. Try the 8.15.1.50 version of the SVGA 3D driver to see whether that resolves the problem.

You can download the ISO of VMware Tools 10.1.5-5055683 ISO and extract the drivers by running setup /a from command line and update the VM SVGA 3D driver manually from Device Manager of the VM.

https://packages.vmware.com/tools/releases/10.1.5/windows/VMware-tools-windows-10.1.5-5055683.iso

Since you switched from FX-8320 to Ryzen, go to the Device Manager of the VM and Show Hidden Devices and Uninstall the FX-8320 virtual processors (if you haven't already done so).

From the DLR are you able to ping all the LIF IPs. (self ping from DLR to all its LIF)
