Running VMs in DMZ is not a problem, but I would never recommend running ESXi (management interface) in DMZ directly. It is too dangerous to expose this service to untrusted network. If you really need it (i.e. remote access to esxi-host using internet), use hw-firewall with vpn-server. Do not count on build-in esxi-firewall...
